Free Skype calls can now be made between the newspaper’s European headquarters and its New York subsidiary using standard desk phones. In addition, staff members in more than a dozen smaller bureaus around the world have been equipped with free Skype accounts to allow them to call both offices at no charge. The publisher’s 600+ employees also use the Actiontec solution to make long-distance calls outside the company at free SkypeIn or low-cost SkypeOut rates. The strategy is saving the newspaper more than 60% in telephony charges per month.
